A disk-shaped compact tension (DC(T)) test has been developed as a practical method for obtaining the fracture energy of asphalt
concrete. The main purpose of the development of this specimen geometry is the ability to test cylindrical cores obtained
from in-place asphalt concrete pavements or gyratory-compacted specimens fabricated during the mixture design process. A suitable
specimen geometry was developed using the ASTM E399 standard for compact tension testing of metals as a starting point. After
finalizing the specimen geometry, a typical asphalt concrete surface mixture was tested at various temperatures and loading
rates to evaluate the proposed DC(T) configuration. The variability of the fracture energy obtained from the DC(T) geometry
was found to be comparable with the variability associated with other fracture tests for asphalt concrete. The ability of
the test to detect changes in the fracture energy with the various testing conditions (temperature and loading rate) was the
benchmark for determining the potential of using the DC(T) geometry. The test has the capability to capture the transition
of asphalt concrete from a brittle material at low temperatures to a more ductile material at higher temperatures. Because
testing was conducted on ungrooved specimens, special care was taken to quantify deviations of the crack path from the pure
mode I crack path. An analysis of variance of test data revealed that the prototype DC(T) can detect statistical differences
in fracture energy resulting for tests conducted across a useful range of test temperatures and loading rates. This specific
analysis also indicated that fracture energy is not correlated to crack deviation angle. This paper also provides an overview
of ongoing work integrating experimental results and observations with numerical analysis by means of a cohesive zone model
tailored for asphalt concrete fracture behavior. 相似文献

混凝土受拉本构行为存在很强的局部软化现象,使得单轴受拉试验无法给出应力-应变关系,而只能给出应力-位移关系。本文根据内变量理论和等效应变假设建立了基于真实应变的混凝土单轴受力本构方程,并根据Weibull分布可以描述混凝土等脆性材料断裂过程的试验现象,建立了关于弹性应变的损伤演化规律。然后,通过假设平均应变与真实弹性应变的函数关系,在应力-平均应变的本构关系中采用平均弹性应变以描述其非局部行为,而在材料的损伤演化规律中采用真实弹性应变以描述其局部行为,由此建立了单轴受拉荷载条件下的非局部本构模型。最后,对一个单调受拉试验和一个反复受拉试验的仿真结果表明所提出的非局部本构模型可以准确地模拟试验结果。 相似文献

In this paper we study the deformation and stability of a shallow shell under uniform edge tension, both theoretically and experimentally. Von Karman’s plate model is adopted to formulate the equations of motion. For a shell with axisymmetrical initial shape, the equilibrium positions can be classified into axisymmetrical and unsymmetrical solutions. While there may exist both stable and unstable axisymmetrical solutions, all the unsymmetrical solutions are unstable. Since the unsymmetrical solutions will not affect the stability of the axisymmetrical solutions, it is concluded that for quasi-static analysis, there is no need to include unsymmetrical assumed modes in the calculation. If the shell is initially in the unstrained configuration, it will only be flattened smoothly when the edge tension is applied. No snap-through buckling is possible in this case. On the other hand, if the shell is initially in the strained position, it will be snapped back to the stable position on the other side of the base plane when the edge tension reaches a critical value. Experiment is conducted on several free brass shells of different initial heights to verify the theoretical predictions. Generally speaking, for the range of initial height H < 10 the experimental measurements of the deformation and the reverse snapping load agree well with theoretical predictions. 相似文献

Although, the effects of ultrasonic irradiation on multiphase flow through porous media have been studied in the past few
decades, the physics of the acoustic interaction between fluid and rock is not yet well understood. Various mechanisms may
be responsible for enhancing the flow of oil through porous media in the presence of an acoustic field. Capillary related
mechanisms are peristaltic transport due to mechanical deformation of the pore walls, reduction of capillary forces due to
the destruction of surface films generated across pore boundaries, coalescence of oil drops due to Bjerknes forces, oscillation
and excitation of capillary trapped oil drops, forces generated by cavitating bubbles, and sonocapillary effects. Insight
into the physical principles governing the mobilization of oil by ultrasonic waves is vital for developing and implementing
novel techniques of oil extraction. This paper aims at identifying and analyzing the influence of high-frequency, high-intensity
ultrasonic radiation on capillary imbibition. Laboratory experiments were performed using cylindrical Berea sandstone and
Indiana limestone samples with all sides (quasi-co-current imbibition), and only one side (counter-current imbibition) contacting
with the aqueous phase. The oil saturated cores were placed in an ultrasonic bath, and brought into contact with the aqueous
phase. The recovery rate due to capillary imbibition was monitored against time. Air–water, mineral oil–brine, mineral oil–surfactant
solution and mineral oil-polymer solution experiments were run each exploring a separate physical process governing acoustic
stimulation. Water–air imbibition tests isolate the effect of ultrasound on wettability, capillarity and density, while oil–brine
imbibition experiments help outline the ultrasonic effect on viscosity and interfacial interaction between oil, rock and aqueous
phase. We find that ultrasonic irradiation enhances capillary imbibition recovery of oil for various fluid pairs, and that
such process is dependent on the interfacial tension and density of the fluids. Although more evidence is needed, some runs
hint that wettability was not altered substantially under ultrasound. Preliminary analysis of the imbibition recoveries also
suggests that ultrasound enhances surfactant solubility and reduce surfactant adsorption onto the rock matrix. Additionally,
counter-current experiments involving kerosene and brine in epoxy coated Berea sandstone showed a dramatic decline in recovery.
Therefore, the effectiveness of any ultrasonic application may strongly depend on the nature of interaction type, i.e., co-
or counter-current flow. A modified form of an exponential model was employed to fit the recovery curves in an attempt to

Contact angle is known to be a parameter that effects boiling. This study was undertaken to measure contact angle of high and low surface tension fluids on copper and aluminum surfaces.Data were taken for polished, oxidized, and rough surfaces. A simple, yet fairly accurate method of measuring the static equilibrium contact angle of a solid/liquid interface is presented. The principles of a line light source and tilting plate were modified and then combined in the design of this apparatus. The angles obtained and their variation with the solid surface properties were in good agreement with previously published data. The contact angle of distilled water o of the organic fluids and refrigerants tested were in the range of 2–5°. Roughness and oxidation reduce the contact angle. If the depth of the roughness is less than 0.5 μm contact angle. The apparatus is fairly simple in construction, is inexpensive, and has good reproductibity. This article describes the synthesis of a novel amphoteric surfactant through esterification of 2‐hydroxy‐N,N,N‐trimethylethanaminium chloride with maleic acid alkyl ester of C8, C10, and C12 chain length in the presence of base. Maleic acid alkyl esters were synthesized by the reaction of maleic anhydride with alkyl alcohol. Surface‐active properties were studied by different techniques such as surface tension and foaming property. Critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) were found by using surface tension values to learn the effect of chain length on CMC of synthesized surfactants. In connection with studies of technical functionality of lipids in cereals, the aqueous systems of lipids from rye and tri-ticale flour are described and compared to different wheat culti-vars. Rye lipids give a lamellar liquid-crystalline phase with very small ordered regions, and this phase is continuously changed into an L2-phase with increasing water content. Triticale lipids exhibit phase equilibria in between lipids of wheat and of rye. Multiple emulsions stabilized by colloidal microcrystalline cellulose (CMCC, Avicel RC591) at the w/o and o/w interfaces, and by the addition of Span 80 or Span 85 at the w/o interface, were studied by means of brightfield microscopy, freeze-etch electron microscopy, droplet size distribution analysis and rheologic measurements. Stable multiple emulsions were prepared by incorporation of sodium chloride in the innermost aqueous phase, thereby creating an osmotic gradient preventing loss of the inner aqueous phase to the external aqueous phase. Freeze-etch electron microscopy of the multiple emulsions indicated the presence of a network of microcrystalline cellulose at the outer o/w interface. It may be assumed that the surfactant directly stabilized the w/o interface by adsorption at the interface, as well as indirectly by facilitating wetting of the microcrystalline cellulose by the oil. From rheologic measurements, the existence of a three-dimensional network in the external aqueous phase was indicated by the considerable degrees of thlxotropy and significant static yield values of these multiple emulsions. 相似文献
